Gig Review: T in the Park 2000

This years T in the Park was the third appearance in a row for FLC. They had been originally booked as 2nd top act, coming on after Gomez and before Ocean Colour Scene for a 1 hour 15 mins set. However, due to the tragic events at Roskilde, acts were asked to cut some of their time to allow Moby to finish

Saturday's performance on the main stage, which left an hour for FLC. Held in Balado near Kinross, this festival is the highlight of many a Scots year. This year it was looking to be a wash out, as it had rained all day long, and the skies were getting greyer by the minute.

However.... as soon as FLC came on stage, the rain stopped. Enough said. The boys came on looking like 3 over grown south park characters.. all hooded up to the max. The opening strains of 'fun lovin criminal' set the crowd on fire, and the expression on Huey's face when he clocked the 3 topless chicks down the front will remain with me for ever. Not to mention the phrase ' nice rack honey ' .. classic. They moved on to one of their new tracks 'dick holder', which Huey explained was about a 'scumbag' back in New York.

'Upon the Hill' was dedicated to all the people upon the hill, of which I was one, nice touch guys. The band did a great bit of merchandise advertising, wearing not just the FLC rain jackets, but Huey also had on his FLC baseball top. The crowd lapped up the faves...... "korean bodega, king of new york, smoke em,10th street,etc.". and of course the ubiquitous "Scooby snacks". A few hearts were broken when Huey dedicated 'Love Unlimited' to the love of his life.....Beliza.. and asked us all to say hi to her on her answering machine from his mobile. Oh well.. maybe this will mean we are gonna get to hear some lurve inspired songs !

Southside brought a darker edge to the set, but as usual Fast, Mackie and Huey played it tight, the driving bass giving me goosebumps all over. For me this is one track that sounds even better live than it does on CD. Amongst these tracks we were treated to 2 other new songs .'. where the bums go'...and the new track from the sound track to Titan AE 'Everything under the Stars'. But...wait....no acting school? How could this be? Huey compensated for this with one of his famous jokes, involving a psychiatrist,
cellophane and nuts....I'll let you fill in the missing parts.

This was a big weekend out in Scotland so it was only fitting that they finished with 'big night out'. How can an hour go in so quickly when you've been waiting all day for it? I knew the rain was going to come back and sure enough it did.....it had to be a sign !They certainly livened up what had been a rather soggy festival, and left the stage with the crowd screaming for more.

Huey .... Fast ..Mackie.... come back to Scotland and finish of what you started, as that was just an aperitif for a gourmet meal.
